维摩妙谛与在家修行正诠
夫剃发染衣，诚为出尘之胜举。然《优婆塞戒经》云：“在家菩萨，得无量福德。”是知大道圆融，不简形迹。
维摩诘示疾毗耶，阐不二法门；善财童子五十三参，证一真法界。自古白衣圣贤，代不乏人。
稽诸典籍，居士修行，渊源有自。《华严经》云：“一切治生产业，皆与实相不相违背。”《法华经》曰：“资生产业，皆顺正法。”
《口诀见鬘论》谓维摩诘为“在家成就典范”，持其心咒可助修行者“于俗世中见胜义”。
伏藏《智慧烈焰》载：“持诵维摩诘咒，言语皆成法音。”此皆在家修行之圭臬。
维摩诘心咒：
嗡 阿雅 维摩拉珂帝 吽呸
Om Arya Vimalakirti Hum Phat
维摩诘法门，其要旨约有三端：
首重心地发明，“但自无心于万物，何妨万物常围绕。”。
二者“虽处居家，不着三界。”
三者福慧双修，《大智度论》曰：“菩萨行者，二种庄严：一者福德，二者智慧。”
众生每谓修道必处山林。经云：“菩萨随所化众生而取佛土。”是知十字街头，正好参禅；红尘浪里，堪成佛道。
伏愿诸仁者：当知一念回光，即超三界；六根清净，便是莲邦。何须驰求？但向心头勘破。所谓本地风光者，当体即是。
The Sublime Truth of Vimalakīrti and the Orthodox Path of Household Practice
To renounce the world by shaving the head and donning monastic robes is indeed a noble endeavor. Yet, as the Upāsaka-śīla Sūtra proclaims: “The household bodhisattva attains immeasurable merit.” Thus, we know the Great Way is all-encompassing, making no distinction in outward form.
Vimalakīrti, abiding in Vaishālī while manifesting illness, expounded the Dharma Gate of Non-Duality. Sudhana, the youth of the Avataṃsaka Sūtra, traversed fifty-three spiritual mentors to realize the One True Dharma Realm. Since ancient times, those in white robes—lay practitioners—have attained enlightenment without cease.
Examining the scriptures, we find the householder’s path has profound precedent. The Avataṃsaka Sūtra states: “All worldly occupations are not contrary to ultimate reality.” The Lotus Sūtra declares: “Livelihood and enterprise accord with the True Dharma.” The Key Instructions Garland Treatise extols Vimalakīrti as “the supreme exemplar of householder realization,” affirming that his mantra aids practitioners in “perceiving the sublime within the mundane.” The Blazing Wisdom Terma further reveals: “To recite Vimalakīrti’s mantra transforms all speech into Dharma-sound.” These are the guiding principles of lay practice.
The Heart Mantra of Vimalakīrti:
Oṃ Ārya Vimalakīrti Hūṃ Phaṭ
Its essence may be distilled into three points:
Awakening the Mind-Ground — “If the heart is unattached to phenomena, what harm if phenomena surround you?”
“Dwelling in the world yet untainted by the Three Realms.”
Cultivating Both Merit and Wisdom — The Mahāprajñāpāramitā Śāstra teaches: “A bodhisattva’s practice is adorned in two ways: merit and wisdom.”
In this Dharma-ending age, many believe enlightenment demands mountain solitude. Yet the sūtras remind us: “A bodhisattva’s Pure Land manifests where sentient beings are to be guided.” Thus, the marketplace is the perfect place for meditation; the waves of worldly life can forge the path to Buddhahood.
May all noble practitioners realize:
A single thought turned inward transcends the Triple Realm;
Purified senses become the Lotus Land.
Why seek afar?
Simply shatter delusion within the mind.
The original radiance—here and now—is it.
